What are exosomes?

Exosomes are small particles, also known as extracellular vesicles, that play a role in communication between cells. They transmit signals, including those related to repair and renewal.


The ASCE+ particles we use come from rose stem cells. This is a plant-based product, not human or animal cell material. According to the manufacturer, they are purified using patented methods. In addition to exosomes, the product contains peptides, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and hyaluronic acid.

What the treatment does for your skin

The idea behind the treatment is to signal your skin to get to work. The active ingredients are delivered into the upper layers of the skin, where they support the repair process that microneedling itself has already set in motion.


In practice, clients most often tell us that their skin looks fresher and more even, appears less dull and feels firmer. The treatment is also used to help the skin recover faster after a more intensive treatment.


The product is also said to support collagen and elastin production and to soothe irritated skin. How strong these effects are in humans has not yet been properly studied. We’ll be honest about that below.

Why exosomes are applied using microneedling

The exosomes are delivered into the skin using microneedling.



This is no coincidence. One of the main concerns about exosomes in skincare is that the particles are too large to pass through the skin in a cream. That concern is valid: applying them topically has little benefit. Microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin with very fine needles, allowing the substances to reach the areas where they can have an effect.

What is and isn’t known

Exosomes are one of the most talked-about developments in skincare in recent years, and many claims are made about them. We’d rather be clear about what is actually known.


What we do know. The principle behind the treatment is plausible and well described: exosomes play a role in communication between cells. And microneedling, which we use to apply them, is a treatment that is supported by evidence.


What we don’t know. There is still little research in humans on exactly what an exosome skin treatment achieves and how long the effects last. There is no approved exosome treatment anywhere in the world. Critics also question how stable the particles remain during production and storage. These are valid questions, and they have not yet been answered.



What we do as a result. We present this as a complementary, supportive treatment, not as a breakthrough or a replacement for treatments that are better established. If you’re mainly looking for certainty about the results, we’ll discuss during your consultation which alternative may be a better fit. We’d rather tell you upfront than risk disappointing you later.


The treatment, step by step

  1. We start with a skin analysis and a conversation about what you’d like to achieve and any treatments you’ve had before.
  2. The skin is cleansed and the exosomes are prepared.
  3. Using the SkinPen for microneedling, we create tiny channels in the skin.
  4. The ASCE+ exosome solution is then applied to the treated area, allowing the substances to enter the skin through the channels.
  5. We finish with a soothing, protective product.
  6. You’ll take home aftercare products for the first week.


Each treatment takes 30 to 45 minutes.


Results and treatment plan

Immediately after treatment, the skin is red and feels warm, much like mild sunburn. This usually subsides within one to two days.


Visible results don’t appear straight away. Over the following weeks, the skin gradually improves: its texture becomes more even, the complexion looks fresher and the skin feels firmer. Clients most often report improvements in skin texture and fine lines.


A course of several treatments is often recommended, tailored to your skin. We decide how many sessions are worthwhile and how far apart to schedule them based on your skin and your goals. As with almost all skin-rejuvenation treatments, results require maintenance and do not last forever on their own.


After treatment

  • Leave your skin alone for the first 24 hours and do not wear makeup.
  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas, sunbeds and swimming for two days.
  • Do not use strong acids, retinol or scrubs during the first week.
  • Apply a high-SPF sunscreen every day, even in winter. The skin is more sensitive to the sun after microneedling.
  • Do not scratch or peel any flaking skin.



Redness and a mildly abrasive feeling are normal. If the redness lasts longer than a few days, or you develop swelling or pain, please contact us.

When we do not perform the treatment

  • If you have an active infection, inflammation or an open wound in the treatment area.
  • If you have an active cold sore, as microneedling can trigger an outbreak. Let us know if you are prone to cold sores.
  • During pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • If you have a blood-clotting disorder or take blood thinners, please discuss this with us first.
  • If you have recently had a filler or wrinkle-relaxing treatment in the same area. We leave two weeks between treatments.
  • If you are taking certain acne medications. Always tell us what you are using.


If you have a skin condition that you’re being treated for, discuss this treatment with your doctor or dermatologist first. We treat skin quality, not skin conditions.


Who is this treatment suitable for?

This treatment is suitable for adults who want to improve their skin quality: dull or tired-looking skin, uneven texture, fine lines, or skin that needs recovery after previous treatments or sun exposure.


If your main goal is to restore volume or target a specific wrinkle, a dermal filler or wrinkle relaxer may be a better fit. During your consultation, we’ll honestly tell you which option suits your needs.

How much does the treatment cost in Amsterdam?

Frequently asked questions

What exactly are exosomes?

Small particles involved in communication between cells. The ASCE+ particles we use come from rose stem cells, so they are plant-based.

Why not just use a cream with exosomes?

Because the particles are too large to pass through the skin on their own. That’s why we apply them immediately after microneedling, when tiny channels have been created in the skin.

Is the treatment painful?

We use an anesthetic cream that takes effect in about twenty minutes. Most people then experience mainly a rough, prickling sensation rather than sharp pain.

How many treatments will I need?

A course of treatment is usually recommended. The number of sessions depends on your skin and your goals. We’ll determine this during your consultation.

When will I see results?

Not immediately. Your skin continues to improve over the weeks following treatment. Allow a few weeks before you can clearly see a difference in texture and tone.

How long do the results last?

This has not been well studied for this treatment. As with other skin-improvement treatments, results require maintenance. We therefore prefer not to quote a number of months that we cannot substantiate.

Is the treatment safe?

The treatment is performed in a clinic under hygienic conditions, and side effects are generally mild and short-lived. What we don’t yet have is extensive long-term research on exosomes in humans. Those are two separate things, and we’re transparent about both.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Yes, exosomes are often used after a more intensive treatment to support recovery. If you’ve recently had injectables, let us know so we can leave enough time in between.
