Skin boosters in Amsterdam: deep hydration for fresh, radiant skin

Skin boosters are injectables that hydrate and firm your skin from within, without adding volume or altering your face. Where a filler provides shape, a skin booster provides radiance: rested, supple skin that looks fresh even without makeup. At Cosmopolitan Clinic in Amsterdam, we work with three proven skin boosters, each with its own strength, and during a no-obligation consultation, we determine which one suits your skin best.

What are skin boosters?

A skin booster is an injectable based on hyaluronic acid or polynucleotides that is applied just below the skin's surface. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that your skin produces itself and that retains moisture; with age, this natural production decreases, and this manifests as duller, drier skin with fine lines.

A skin booster replenishes that supply from within. The skin retains more moisture, becomes more supple, and starts to look healthier. The effect is deliberately subtle: no one notices that you have had anything done; people mainly see that you look rested.

Who are skin boosters suitable for?

Skin boosters are right for you if your skin looks dull, dry, or tired; when fine lines become visible on your cheeks, around your mouth, or on your neck; or if you smoke, have had a lot of sun exposure, or simply notice that your skin has less elasticity than a few years ago. A skin booster also works well as a complement to fillers or botulinum toxin: those treatments address the shape, while the skin booster improves skin quality.

The treatment is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in the event of an active skin infection in the treatment area, or in the case of a known allergy to the ingredients. We always review this together during the consultation.

The three skin boosters at Cosmopolitan Clinic

Profhilo is the best known: a highly concentrated hyaluronic acid that spreads as a thin layer under the skin after application. It also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, making the skin firmer. Profhilo works with five fixed injection points per half of the face, making it fast and predictable.

Belotero Revive combines hyaluronic acid with glycerol and is designed for the early signs of skin aging: fine lines, dull complexion, and initial sun damage. A great entry-level skin booster for those who want to keep it natural.

PolyPhil works with polynucleotides, which stimulate the skin's own repair capacity. There is a variant for the face, a special variant for the area around the eyes, and PolyPhil Next for those who want to take skin improvement a step further.

Which of the three suits you best depends on your skin, your age, and what you want to achieve. We don't determine that on the website, but in the mirror during the consultation.

Skin booster or filler: what is the difference?

A filler adds shape and volume to a specific area: more cheekbones, a straighter nose, fuller lips. A skin booster does not add volume, but improves the quality of the skin itself over a larger area. Simply put: the filler builds, the skin booster maintains.

Unsure what your skin needs? Often the answer is a combination, and sometimes the answer is also: nothing just yet. You can read more background in our blog about what a skin booster does for your skin.

How does the treatment proceed?

We begin with a consultation during which we assess your skin and discuss your wishes. Next, we cleanse the skin and apply the skin booster using a series of small, superficial injections; with Profhilo, these are fixed points, while with the other products, we tailor the pattern to your skin. The treatment takes an average of 20 to 30 minutes, and you can simply continue with your day afterwards.

For best results, skin boosters work as a course: usually two to three treatments with about a month in between, followed by one or two maintenance sessions per year.

Result and shelf life

During the first few days, you will primarily notice hydration: the skin feels softer and looks fresher. The full effect, including the production of new collagen, builds up over four to six weeks following the course. On average, the results remain visible for six to nine months, depending on your skin, lifestyle, and the product chosen. Results vary from person to person; during the consultation, we will outline an honest expectation for your specific situation.

Aftercare and recovery

Do not apply makeup to the treated area for the first 24 hours, do not rub or massage, and avoid intensive exercise, saunas, or tanning beds on the same day. Small bumps at the injection points are normal and usually disappear within a day. Otherwise, you can resume all your normal activities immediately.

Possible side effects and risks

As with any injectable, temporary redness, slight swelling, or a small bruise may occur at the injection sites. Temporary tenderness or a small lump that disappears on its own rarely occurs. Serious complications are rare with skin boosters, especially when the treatment is performed by a physician familiar with anatomy. With us, you are always under the care of a BIG-registered physician, and we are also available for questions after the treatment.

Prices

A single skin booster treatment starts at €300. Belotero Revive costs €300 per treatment, PolyPhil €300, and Profhilo €350. If you opt for a course, you pay €650 for Profhilo (two treatments) or €950 (three), and €850 to €950 for a course of three for PolyPhil. You can find the current prices for all variants on our price list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly are skin boosters?

Injectables based on hyaluronic acid or polynucleotides that hydrate the skin from within and improve quality, without adding volume. The result is fresher, more supple skin.

What is the difference between a skin booster and a filler?

A filler provides shape and volume in one area, while a skin booster improves skin quality over a larger area. They are not mutually exclusive and are frequently combined.

How many treatments do I need?

Usually a course of two to three treatments with about a month in between, followed by one or two maintenance sessions per year. During the consultation, we will propose a schedule that suits your skin.

How long does the result remain visible?

On average six to nine months, depending on your skin, lifestyle, and the product chosen. The full effect builds up in the weeks following the course.

Is the treatment painful?

The product is the same, the location differs. Bunny lines are located on the sides of the nose, frown lines are between the eyebrows. You can read more about Botox on our Botox page.

Which skin booster suits me?

That depends on your skin and your goal: Belotero Revive for early signs, Profhilo for firmness and radiance, PolyPhil for skin repair and the eye area. During the consultation, we will honestly advise you on which one suits you best, or which combination.
