BBL Hero & MOXI treatment

BBL Hero & MOXI is a combination treatment that addresses pigmentation, redness, and skin texture in a single course. At Cosmopolitan Clinic in Amsterdam, our BIG-registered physicians combine these two Sciton technologies, also known as Sciton Skin Transformation. BBL Hero targets color and sun damage. MOXI refines skin texture and stimulates collagen production. Together, they deliver results in a single appointment that would otherwise require multiple appointments.

What is a BBL Hero & MOXI treatment?

BBL Hero comes from the American company Sciton. The abbreviation stands for BroadBand Light, High Energy Rapid Output. Using powerful light pulses at different depths, we address specific skin problems such as pigmentation spots, redness, and sun damage. Thanks to the fast technology, we treat larger areas in a short time, with optimal comfort. BBL Hero works on both light and dark skin types.

MOXI is also from Sciton. It is a mild, fractional laser developed for preventive skin improvement. A fractional laser creates very small, controlled micro-damage, triggering the skin's natural repair process. The skin produces new collagen and elastin, and cell renewal accelerates. As a result, enlarged pores, fine lines, and imperfections are visibly refined.

We call the combination of both the Sciton Skin Transformation. BBL Hero works on color and visible blood vessels. MOXI works on texture and firmness. By combining them in a single appointment, we treat the superficial and deeper layers of the skin simultaneously.

When is this treatment suitable?

The BBL Hero & MOXI treatment is a good choice if you want to address multiple issues at once: pigmentation spots and a dull or coarse skin texture, or redness and fine lines. Especially those over 30 with the first signs of sun damage, an uneven complexion, or early wrinkles notice the difference. The combination is also used to refresh the skin for an important moment, such as a wedding.

The treatment is not suitable immediately after a sun holiday, with an active skin condition, or during pregnancy. Our doctor assesses your skin type, medical history, and wishes before each treatment.

How does the treatment work?

BBL Hero works using selective heat. The emitted light is absorbed by pigment (melanin) and blood vessels (hemoglobin). As a result, excess pigment breaks down and vascular structures are reduced. At the same time, the heat activates collagen production, which improves skin structure.

MOXI creates controlled damage at the micro level in the upper layers of the skin. Subsequently, the repair process begins: old cells are replaced, and the production of collagen and elastin accelerates.

Both techniques are non-ablative. This means that the outer layer of skin remains intact and the recovery time is short, especially compared to classic laser treatments.

The treatment step by step

An initial consultation with our doctor is always the starting point. We examine your skin, discuss your expectations, and determine whether the combination treatment suits your goal.

On the day of treatment, we cleanse the skin and you put on protective glasses. First, we go through the BBL Hero. You will feel short, warm flashes of light, similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. This is followed by MOXI: the fractional laser glides gently over the skin and gives a slight tingling sensation. For those who are sensitive, we apply a numbing cream beforehand.

Immediately afterwards, we cool the skin and provide advice on cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection for the following days.

Results and shelf life

The skin looks brighter and fresher immediately after the treatment. In the week following, pigment spots often surface and slowly flake off. This is part of the process. You will see the full result after four to six weeks, when the production of new collagen is well underway.

For a strikingly visible effect, we generally recommend a course of several treatments spread over a number of weeks. The exact number depends on your skin type and initial condition. Afterwards, we maintain the result with an annual boost treatment. How you care for your skin in between treatments, especially with a good SPF, also helps determine how long the effect remains visible.

Recovery and aftercare

The recovery time is short. The skin may feel slightly warm and somewhat red for the first few hours, similar to a mild sunburn. With MOXI, you may sometimes see a slightly rough texture with small dark dots (the so-called MENDS) for one to two days, which peel off on its own.

For the first week, we ask you to avoid direct sunlight, use SPF 30 or higher daily, and not to scrub or peel the skin. Make-up can often be applied again from the next day, provided it is applied carefully.

Risks and side effects

BBL Hero and MOXI are medical treatments. At Cosmopolitan Clinic, only BIG-registered doctors work, using treatment equipment that complies with European guidelines. Nevertheless, there are risks associated with every skin treatment.

Possible short-term side effects: redness, mild swelling, a temporary warm or tight sensation, small scabs on pigment spots that flake off. Rarely occurring: blisters, permanent discoloration (hyper- or hypopigmentation), or scarring. The risk of these more serious side effects depends heavily on proper advice and correct device settings. Therefore, we always work with an individual skin plan drawn up by a doctor.

In the event of an active skin infection, pregnancy, breastfeeding, recent use of isotretinoin (Roaccutane), or a skin condition that requires treatment at that time, we will postpone the treatment.

Suitable for

The treatment is suitable for people who want to refresh their skin, achieve a more even complexion, or work preventively against early signs of skin aging. We see clients in their thirties coming in with their first pigment spot or coarse pore structure, as well as sixty-somethings who want to give their skin a refresh.

Not suitable: active skin infections, pregnancy or breastfeeding, recently used isotretinoin, heavily tanned skin, and active autoimmune disorders affecting the skin. During the consultation, our doctor will check if there are any other contraindications.

Costs

The cost of the BBL Hero & MOXI treatment depends on the treatment area, the intensity, and the number of sessions we recommend. During your consultation, our doctor will create a personalized plan with transparent pricing. We always send you a quote prior to the treatment. Frequently Asked Questions

Is the treatment painful?

Most clients describe the sensation of BBL Hero as short, warm taps, and MOXI as a slight tingling. For those who are sensitive, we apply a numbing cream to the skin before the treatment.

How long does a treatment take?

Expect an appointment of 60 to 90 minutes, including preparation, numbing cream, treatment, and aftercare instructions. The net treatment time is usually shorter.

How many treatments do I need?

For a noticeable result, a course of several sessions is usually required, spread over a few weeks. Our doctor determines the number that suits your skin type and goals.

Can I be treated in the summer?

We do not recommend BBL Hero immediately after a sun holiday or on a heavily tanned face. MOXI can be used almost all year round, provided you protect yourself well against UV rays. Our doctor will give the best advice for your situation.

When will I see the result?

The skin looks immediately fresher. Pigment spots surface and flake off in the following week. The full effect, including the smoother texture, is visible after four to six weeks.

Can I exercise after the treatment?

On the day of treatment, it is best to rest for a while. You may resume gentle movement starting the day after. We advise against intensive exercise or using a sauna for the first 48 hours, as this causes the skin to become extra warm.
