What is Forever Bare BBL laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal and BBL hair removal both use light energy to achieve long-term hair reduction. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and converted into heat. This heat disables the hair follicle, so fewer hairs grow back after a course of treatments.
At Cosmopolitan Clinic, we use Forever Bare BBL by the American company Sciton. Forever Bare is the name Sciton gives to its hair-removal setting. It’s not a separate technique you need to look up; it’s simply how our BBL device targets hair. BBL stands for BroadBand Light, a medical light-based hair removal treatment that you can think of as the powerful, clinical version of IPL. The device delivers multiple low-energy pulses in quick succession, rather than one intense flash. This warms the skin evenly and makes the treatment more comfortable than conventional IPL, while still delivering enough heat to disable the hair follicle.
This treatment is part of our laser and skin treatment range. If you’d also like to address pigmentation, redness or skin texture alongside hair removal, our BBL Hero & MOXI treatment is a natural choice.

The pros and cons at a glance
The benefits of Forever Bare laser hair removal:
- long-lasting hair reduction, so no more daily shaving, plucking or waxing
- a comfortable treatment thanks to fast, even pulses
- short treatment time, even for larger areas such as the legs
- performed and overseen by BIG-registered doctors
- no downtime—you can get straight back to your day
Things to keep in mind:
- you will need multiple treatments over a period of several months
- works best on dark hair; light blonde, grey and red hair barely respond
- less suitable for dark or tanned skin; our doctor will assess each person individually
- the result is significant hair reduction, with no guarantee that a hair will never grow back
How does Forever Bare BBL work?
Forever Bare works using selective heat. The emitted light is absorbed mainly by melanin, the pigment in the hair. The heat travels along the hair to the follicle and disables it, while sparing the surrounding skin as much as possible.
Because your hair grows in cycles and only hairs in the active growth phase respond well to light, one treatment isn’t enough. A course of sessions targets a new batch of hair follicles in the growth phase each time. Forever Bare’s rapid, consecutive pulses gradually warm the treatment area, making it more comfortable than the single, powerful flash used by older devices.
Which areas and skin types can we treat?
Laser hair removal is suitable for both small and large areas, including the upper lip and chin, underarms, bikini line, arms, upper and lower legs, back and chest. During your consultation, we’ll discuss the areas you’d like treated and create a plan to suit.
Forever Bare works by targeting the difference in colour between your hair and skin. It is ideal for light to medium skin with dark hair. If you have darker skin or a recent tan, the risk of discolouration is higher. At your initial consultation, our doctor will assess whether Forever Bare is safe for you or whether another approach would be more suitable. Your safety always comes before speed.
The treatment step by step
- A consultation with our doctor is always the first step. We’ll assess your skin type and hair colour, review your medication and medical history, and discuss your expectations.
- On the day of treatment, we shave the area to be treated and give you protective goggles to wear.
- The Forever Bare handpiece glides smoothly over the skin. You’ll feel short, warm pulses, similar to a warm elastic band lightly snapping against your skin.
- After treatment, we cool the skin and give you clear aftercare instructions.
Most areas can be treated quickly: underarms take just a few minutes, while legs take a little longer. You can carry on with your day as usual afterwards.

Results and how long they last
After each treatment, you’ll notice that your hair grows back finer and less of it returns. Because only hairs in the growth phase respond, an average of six to ten treatments is needed, usually spaced four to six weeks apart. The exact number depends on the area, your hair colour and your skin type.
After your course, hair growth is significantly and permanently reduced. In some people, new hair follicles may become active over time. An annual maintenance treatment can help keep your results looking smooth. We’ll be honest about how your skin is likely to respond throughout your treatment, so you know what to expect.
Recovery and aftercare
Recovery time is short. For the first few hours, your skin may feel slightly warm and look a little red, similar to mild sunburn. Small bumps may appear around the hair follicles, but they will go away on their own.
Avoid saunas, sunbeds, strenuous exercise and hot showers for the first 24 to 48 hours, as your skin will be extra warm. Stay out of direct sunlight for the first one to two weeks and use SPF 30 or higher every day. The treated hairs will shed naturally over the following days; leave them alone and don’t pluck them. You may shave between treatments, but don’t use epilators, wax or pluck the hair, as this removes the hair root that the light needs to target.
Risks and side effects
Laser hair removal is a cosmetic treatment. At Cosmopolitan Clinic, treatments are performed only by BIG-registered doctors using equipment that complies with European guidelines. However, all light-based treatments carry some risks.
In the short term, you may experience redness, a slight feeling of warmth and small bumps around the hair follicles. These usually disappear within a few hours to a day. Rare side effects include blistering or temporary changes in skin colour, either darker or lighter, especially if you have a tan or the device settings are not right for your skin. That’s why we create a personalised plan and, if in doubt, perform a test patch.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, have recently used isotretinoin (Roaccutane) or take medication that makes your skin sensitive to light, we will postpone treatment. During your consultation, the doctor will assess whether there are any other reasons to wait.

Who is laser hair removal suitable for?
Laser hair removal is ideal if you have unwanted dark hair and are tired of constantly shaving or waxing. It can also help with ingrown hairs or skin irritation caused by shaving. Many clients choose to treat their underarms, bikini line or legs, but the face can also be treated.
Treatment is less suitable for light blonde, grey or red hair, as it contains too little pigment to absorb the light. For very dark skin, our doctor may recommend a different technique. If you’re unsure, a consultation will give you a clear answer.
How much does laser hair removal cost in Amsterdam?
The cost depends on the area and the number of treatments you need. At Cosmopolitan Clinic, Forever Bare laser hair removal starts at € 95 per area. A full-face treatment costs € 195, and both legs cost € 425. Prices for all other areas, combinations and courses are listed on our price list. During your consultation, the doctor will create a personalised treatment plan with transparent pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Is laser hair removal painful?
Most people describe it as short, warm pulses, like a warm elastic band against the skin. Forever Bare’s fast, even heating makes it more comfortable than conventional IPL. If you’re sensitive to pain, let us know beforehand so we can discuss it with you.
How many treatments will I need?
An average of six to ten treatments is needed, usually spaced four to six weeks apart. This is because only hairs in the growth phase respond to the light at any given time. Our doctor will determine the number of treatments best suited to your skin and hair.
What are the disadvantages of laser hair removal?
You’ll need a course of treatments, and it only works well on dark hair. Light blonde, grey and red hair respond very little, and extra care is needed for darker or tanned skin. Temporary redness is normal. The result is significant hair reduction, not an absolute guarantee that no hairs will ever grow back.
What should I avoid after treatment?
Avoid saunas, sunbeds, strenuous exercise and hot showers for the first 24 to 48 hours. Stay out of direct sunlight for one to two weeks and use SPF 30 or higher every day. You may shave between treatments, but do not use epilators, wax or pluck the hair.
Can I have my bikini line treated?
Yes, the bikini line is one of the most requested areas and is suitable for treatment. During your consultation, we’ll discuss exactly which area you’d like treated, so you know what to expect.
Is laser hair removal safe?
Forever Bare BBL uses visible and infrared light, not UV radiation. There is no scientific evidence that this type of light-based hair removal causes skin cancer. At our clinic, treatment is carried out under the supervision of BIG-registered doctors, with settings tailored to your skin. If you have moles or a skin condition, please mention it during your consultation so the doctor can take it into account.
